Preliminary MVP policy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Mowgli collects, why it is used, when it is shared, and the choices available to consumers, partner organizations, and creators.
This preliminary policy is intended for MVP transparency and is pending final legal review before public launch.
Effective: July 28, 2026 · Last updated: August 16, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how SMAL Ideas LLC (“Mowgli,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal information across the Mowgli consumer app, public website, partner portal, creator hub, and related services. Partner organizations may separately control information they collect for their own application, visit, placement, donation, or operational processes.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use Mowgli, we may collect:
- account and demographic information, such as name, email, phone number, date of birth, gender, household-member names, ages and relationships, address fields, preferences, and profile completion;
- questionnaire and inquiry information submitted to participating shelters or rescues, including housing tenure such as whether you own or rent, household information, and health-related information you choose to provide. Generic shelter-authored free text is treated as user content; Mowgli prohibits shelter-authored questions from requesting Sensitive Info under Apple’s privacy categories;
- activity such as views, likes, passes, inquiries, accepted or rejected inquiry status, and screens or features used;
- approximate or precise location when you grant permission for distance, map, event, lost-and-found, or discovery features;
- content such as photos, lost-and-found reports, recommendations, private inquiry messages and shelter responses, and support requests, replies, and case information;
- a Mowgli device identifier and push token when app notifications are enabled, while authentication, hosting, payment, map, and notification providers may process network, device, browser, operating-system, security, or diagnostic details under their documented practices;
- donation and merchandise purchase history, amount, status, receipt, selected organization, shipping details, and a limited payment-method summary such as card brand, last four digits, and expiration date; and
- partner and creator account, organization, role, referral, publishing, and operational analytics information.
The native Mowgli app does not use browser cookies for first-party app analytics, and public-website analytics is designed to be cookie-free. Authentication or other web services may use cookies under their documented practices; browser controls apply to those web experiences.
3. How we use information
We use information to provide and secure accounts; personalize discovery; calculate distance and eligibility; share submitted questionnaire answers with the selected shelter for application review; route inquiries and status updates; support lost-and-found, event, donation, and partner workflows; measure views, likes, inquiries, visits represented by accepted inquiries, and rejected inquiries; communicate with users; prevent abuse; troubleshoot; comply with law; and improve Mowgli.
4. Adoption and visit measurement limits
Mowgli does not currently claim to independently verify completed adoptions or physical visits. Unless a participating organization provides confirmed data through a future approved integration or manual report, Mowgli analytics treat an accepted inquiry as a visit-stage signal, not proof that a visit or adoption occurred.
5. How information is shared
We may share information with a shelter or rescue when you submit an inquiry or otherwise ask us to connect you; with service providers that support hosting, databases, authentication, analytics, email, maps, payments, and security; with other users when you intentionally publish a public listing or share link; during a business transaction; or when required to comply with law or protect people, animals, rights, and systems. We do not sell personal information for money.
6. Public content and location
Lost-and-found reports, public share links, and other community features can make selected details visible outside your account. Mowgli will request permission before using device location where platform rules require it. You can change location permissions in device settings, though some distance-based features may then be unavailable or less accurate.
7. Payments and donations
Payment details may be collected directly by an approved payment processor, merchandise provider, or partner organization. Mowgli may receive limited transaction and purchase information such as status, amount, receipt reference, selected organization, shipping details, and a payment-method summary containing card brand, last four digits, and expiration date. Mowgli does not intend to store complete payment-card numbers.
8. Retention and deletion
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the services, maintain security and records, resolve disputes, satisfy legal obligations, and support legitimate partner operations.
When you delete your account, Mowgli deletes unfinished questionnaire drafts, questionnaire uploads and photos, submitted answer content, and direct personal information or media contained in those answers. For a submitted shelter workflow, Mowgli retains only the shelter and inquiry identifiers, submission timestamps, workflow status, and the consent and privacy-policy versions in effect at submission for 24 months. That minimized record may be kept longer only under a documented legal hold.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including role-scoped access for partner and creator tools. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your choices and rights
You may update available profile fields, change device permissions, opt out of non-essential communications, or request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of eligible personal information. Applicable law may provide additional rights. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
11. Children
Mowgli is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it as appropriate.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Mowgli and its legal obligations evolve. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, an in-product or email notice. Privacy questions and requests may be sent to themowgliapp@icloud.com.
